SCHEDULE for the SUMMER FLOWERS and VEGETABLES SHOW

At the Village Hall on 14th August at 2.00pm.

Admission, including exhibitors: 50p. Accompanied children: Free.

Entry fee per class: 30p. Non-members. 50p. Division G: £1.00. Non-members: £1.50.

 

Entry forms for Classes G81, G82 and G83 to be returned with fees by 6.00pm on Saturday 24th July.

          Entry forms, except for Division G, to be returned by 6.00pm on Wednesday 11th August, with fees.

No late entries will be accepted.

Exhibits, with entry cards to be in position between 8.00 and 10.15am on 14th August.

 

Exhibitors must have left the hall by 10.15am.

 

All exhibits in Divisions A, B and C must have been in the possession or cultivation

of the exhibitor for at least 3 months before the show, and in Division G for at least 6 weeks.

 

No exhibits to be removed until after the presentation of the prizes.

Presentation of prizes at 3.30pm.

Division A

Unless otherwise indicated, the prizes in each class will be: 1st - £1.00, 2nd - 60p, 3rd - 40p.

 

Pot plant containers not larger than 25cm diameter, unless otherwise specified.

 

Class No.

 

A1. Three vases, each containing one flower or stem chosen from 3 of the following 4 categories: a) one kind of biennial; b) one kind of herbaceous perennial; c) one kind of annual; d) exhibitor’s choice, excluding categories a), b), and c) but permitting flowers from trees and shrubs (excluding roses).

Prizes: £1.50, £1.00 and 75p.

A2. Three vases, each containing a different kind of flower or stem of an annual flower grown in the open. Prizes: £1.50, £1.00 and 75p.

A3. Three vases, each containing a different kind of flower or stem of a hardy perennial flower (not from trees or shrubs). Prizes £1.50 £1.00 and 75p.

A4. One vase containing flowers/stems of 7 different kinds of flower grown in the open, shrubs (excluding roses) allowed. One of each kind with the minimum of

foliage. Include a list of the flowers, with varieties if known.

A5. One vase containing 3 stems of foliage grown for the decorative value of their foliage. These stems to be from 3 different kinds of plant should be without flowers or fruit.

A6. One vase containing 3 stems with flowers from one kind of outdoor tree or shrub.

A7. One vase containing 3 rose blooms (hybrid tea).

A8. One vase, 3 sprays of roses (floribunda).

A9. One vase containing one stem of climbing plant in flower.

A10. One vase, gladiolus, 1 spike.

A11. One bowl, 5 pansies or violas without foliage.

A12. One vase, 5 stems of sweet peas (not perennial).

A13. One vase, 5 stems of pinks.

A14. One vase, 5 french marigolds.

A15. One vase, 5 hardy geraniums (not pelargoniums).

A16. One vase, 3 cactus dahlias, one variety.

A17. One vase, 3 decorative dahlias, one variety.

A18. One vase, one stem of an annual flower.

A19. One vase, one stem of a perennial flower.

A20. One vase, 3 hydrangea blooms.

A21. One flowering saintpaulia plant, growing in a pot not exceeding 12.5cm diameter.

A22. One fuchsia in a pot, not exceeding 20cm diameter.

A23. One flowering plant in a pot, other than saintpaulias or fuchsias.

A24. One cactus or succulent in a pot, not exceeding 20cm diameter.

A25. One foliage plant in a pot (not ferns).

A26. One fern in a pot.

A27. One begonia of any kind or variety in a pot.

A28. A collection of growing ornamental grasses, exhibited in 3 pots each not

exceeding 20cm, a separate cultivar in each pot, arranged for effect.

A29. Marrow seeds to be provided by the Association. Marrows will be judged by

weight.

 

Division B

 

Unless otherwise indicated, the prizes in each class will be:

1st - £1.00, 2nd - 60p, 3rd - 40p.

Please ensure all exhibits conform with the RHS Handbook (see General Regulations) unless otherwise specified.

B30. Collection of 5 vegetables, one of each. Prizes: £2.00, £1.50 and £1.00.

B31. 3 kinds of vegetables in container, numbers as in schedule below.

Prizes: £2.00, £1.50 and £1.00.

B32. Beans, broad – 3.

B33. Beans, dwarf - 3.

B34. Beans, runner - 3.

B35. Beetroot - 3, tops trimmed to approx 7.5cm.

B36. Cabbage - 2, with approx. 7.5cm of stem.

B37. Carrots – 3, long pointed. Tops trimmed to approx 7.5cm.

B38. Carrots – 3, stump rooted. Tops trimmed to approx 7.5cm

B39. Courgettes - 3.

B40. Cucumbers – 2

B41. Lettuce – 2, with roots on.

B42. Marrows - pair, maximum length 30cm.

B43. Onions - 3, each weighing 200gm or less.

B44. Onions - 3, each weighing more than 200g.

B45. Peas – 6 pods.

B46. Mange tout/sugar snap peas – 6 pods.

B47. Potatoes - 3 of one variety (named).

B48. Shallots, exhibition - 9, bulbs over 3cm in diameter.

B49. Shallots, pickling - 9, bulbs should not exceed 3cm in diameter.

B50. Spinach - 5 leaves in water.

B51. Tomatoes - 3 on a plate, with calyces.

B52. Tomatoes, cherry - 6 on a plate, with calyces.

B53. Any vegetable not listed above.*

B54. 4 containers, each pot not exceeding 10 cm, each with a different named herb in water.

 

Division C

Prizes in each class will be: 1st - £1.00, 2nd - 60p, 3rd - 40p.

C55. Strawberries - 10 on a dish - with stalks.

C56. Raspberries – 10 on a dish – with stalks

C57 . Loganberries - 10 on a dish - with stalks.

C58. Gooseberries - 10 on a dish - with stalks.

C59. Blackcurrants - 10 strigs** on a dish.

C60. Redcurrants - 10 strigs** on a dish.

C61. Any fruit not listed above.* on a dish.

C62. Dish of assorted fruit arranged for effect.

 

*Exhibitors who are unsure of the number of vegetables or fruit required in classes B53 and C61 respectively,

should consult the Show Secretary.

** Strigs were previously called sprays

N.B. Where entries in Divisions B and C require to be displayed on a plate or dish, this will be provided by the Show Secretary on the day of the Show.

 

 

Division F

Exhibits must be the Exhibitor’s own unaided work.

Niches will be provided for Classes F65 to F66 inclusive and F70.

Prizes in each class will be: 1st - £1.00, 2nd - 60p, 3rd - 40p.

Entries to be judged in accordance with latest edition of NAFAS Competitions Manual.

F65. "Old Fashioned Garden Flower Arrangement in a Jug" - an exhibit

60cm x 60cm x height unlimited.

F66. "Herbal Table Decoration" - an exhibit 60cm x 60cm x 60cm.

F67. "A Bowl of Sunshine" – a miniature exhibit 10cm x 10cm x 10cm.

F68. "Orange and Lemons" - a petite exhibit 25cm x 25cm x 25cm.

F70. Men only class. "Dig for Victory" - an exhibit 60cm x 60cm x height

unlimited.

Division G

Classes G81, G82 and G83 to be judged in situ, during late July.

Entry forms for classes G81, G82 and G83 to be returned by Saturday 24th July.

Prizes in these classes will be: 1st - £5.00, 2nd - £2.00 and 3rd - £1.00.

G81. Most attractive single patio container or hanging basket.

G82. Most attractive group of complementary patio containers (no fewer than three

containers).

G83. Best vegetable garden or allotment.

 

Division H

 

Please enter your photographs in this class.Photographs not to exceed 15cm by 10cm.

 

Prizes will be: 1st - £1.00, 2nd - 60p, 3rd - 40p.

Regulations for Summer Flowers and Vegetables Show

 

Exhibitors are advised to re-check the General Regulations for shows, and are reminded that the Schedule is based on the latest RHS Horticultural Show Handbook, the NFWI Handbook for Exhibitors, Judges and Show Committees, and the latest edition of the NAFAS Competitions Manual.

Copies of these handbooks are held by the Honorary Show Secretary.

Note that all measurements given are metric.
